Can't miss prospects at RB

We all know the Eagles wouldn't mind finding a running back to replace the oft-injured Correll Buckhalter, so how about this "can't miss" prospect:

Unable to practice much or play at all during the preseason, Maurice Clarett will be released by the Denver Broncos later this week, his agent said Sunday.

Agent Steven Feldman said Clarett, the troubled running back, whom the Broncos surprisingly chose in the third round of this year's draft, will be released when the Broncos make their first round of cuts.

"They didn't contact me, per se," Feldman said in a telephone interview. "The kid (Clarett) called me and let me know they're going to let him go."

Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano said the team didn't plan to release anybody until Tuesday.

Some teammates questioned Clarett's commitment to training and as missed practices piled up, coach Mike Shanahan stopped defending Clarett to the media.

The Patriots, meanwhile, today released running back Cedric Cobbs. Cobbs, 6-foot and 221 pounds, is in his second year out of Arkansas. He rushed 22 times for 50 yards in 2004.

You said you wanted a short-yardage back, right?

OK, OK, probably not. Can't you tell when we type with tongue-in-cheek? Somewhere, as we speak, Dorsey Levens is working out.

Hey Guys,

Had this lightbulb go on the other day which might enlighten or at least enliven the discussion about the Iggles RB situation. How about making a bid for our long lost "favorite son" Ricky Williams? He looks good so far in his comeback, he should come relatively cheap, and he'd just be a minor blip on the team's current soap opera screen. Let's get creative for once.

Ricky Williams?! Please. He's another bad attitude and the guy is too high to see the running lane in front of him. My vote is for Levens or another back off the waiver wire. We still have Westbrook who teams have to design defenses to stop. With Corey Simon cut the Birds can afford to give B West more cash. But will they?

Are you serious with all of this Dorsey Levens talk? Yes, he's working out just like all the other 40 year olds you know. He was a great player, but he's well past his prime, and Reid will not bring him back because his quickness isn't what it used to be. The eagles will stick with what they have over bringing Dorsey back in even if they lose another 2 running backs.

How about Eddie George? Wasn't he cut loose by Dallas? Bring the Philly guy home?

Levens may have lost his quickness but he knows the system and the blitz pickups (very important) which would make him a good fit again in Philly.

We don't need Levens. We need someone better. But, that opprotunity was lost when we did not get Travis Henry for whatever reason that I am not aware of.

We have to stop nit-picking at important positions and go for quality. We need to stop trying to get lucky when we do not have the opportunity to draft well.

What we really need is another back that offers a change of pace to Westbrook and can eat up yards and clock when we have a lead late in the game. We should keep watching the waiver wires...
