Chance To Shine For Eagles Hood

Roderick Hood has long been considered one of the best No. 3 cornerbacks in the NFL. Hood is a relatively modest, but supremely confident player who doesn't consider himself a backup. And now once again he isn't.
Hood will take over for Lito Sheppard who is out for Sunday's game at Lincoln Financial Field against the New York Giants with a right ankle sprain. While the Eagles only announced that Sheppard is out for this week, it wouldn't be surprising if he misses several more games.
And the Eagles don't lose any quality with Hood starting in place of Sheppard, but their depth takes a major hit.
There isn't a team in the NFL who can match the Eagles three corners of Sheppard, Sheldon Brown and Hood.
Now with Hood out, Joselio Hanson, a player who was cut by the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the 2005 preseason, is the No. 3 corner. And Dexter Wynn, signed on Monday after being cut two weeks ago by the Eagles, is the No. 4 corner.
It says here that Hood is also the Eagles top kick returner, but he's unlikely to see time there. Cornerback is among the most demanding positions in the NFL and Hood will have plenty of work to do just by playing defense.
He is one of those players who everybody says is underrated, so that really doesn't make him underrated anymore.
This is Hood's fourth season, but he will only be making his ninth start of his career. That is only because of the Eagles' depth at corner, where Sheppard made the Pro Bowl in 2004 and Brown is on the verge of a postseason trip to Hawaii any season now.
After this season Hood will be a free agent and there is no doubt that he will have plenty of places to go. It would be awfully smart of the Eagles if he stays in Philadelphia.

I think Hood is not as talented as Lito but he ain't soft.No one can accuse him of that. The Birds' DBacks as whole blew up last season. And I'm tired of hearing about the "awful" DLine that caused it.Sorry, they sucked.Beat on Z routes, beat on 7s,beat on fades...oh.yeah,beat on skinny posts.

Hood was a glimmer of hope in that morass. Here's to hoping he adds something where Lito left burn marks.
It's gotta improve if they want to go anywhere this year.

Fourth paragraph should be,"Now that Sheppard's out..."

I agree the Eagles are fortunate to have Hood available however the defensive front and linebackers will make or break the Eagles chances on Sunday. Eli Manning must feel pressure and that will require stalling the Giants' run game. GO Eagles!!
