Enough of the Super Bowl Talk Please

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Donovan McNabb feels the Eagles are a Super Bowl team. So does safety Brian Dawkins. And offensive guard Shawn Andrews said the same thing. Who knows how many other Eagles feel the same way, but here's some quick advice - SHUT UP!
Enough of this Super Bowl talk. While it's nice that the team shows confidence, after a 6-10 season, the Eagles should be a little humbled.
Instead of talking of getting to the Super Bowl, how about beating Houston in the season opener? The Eagles feel they are among the elite teams in the NFL, that last year was an aberration. That's great that this is a confident club, but a little bit of humble pie would serve the team well. The Eagles don't need to fire up their opponents even more by telling everybody how good they are. They should go out there and prove it.
It's nice that the Eagles are so confident, but the fact remains that the team is coming off a 6-10 season and the receivers are questionable and running back position could use some depth.
The Eagles should stop with the predictions and just go out and play. All they are doing by telling everybody how good they think they are is heightening the expectations of everybody. Plus they are giving their opponents plenty of fodder in the motivation department.
Since NFL championships aren't won at the podium, the Eagles should do all their talking on the field and nowhere else.

whats mcnabb supposed to do if asked that question? Say "no, we're at least two years away from super bowl contention" You're a dummy, nitwit, numbskull, moron, dope. Every player is supposed to say the same thing when asked that question, even if they're playing for the 49ers. Please remove you head from you hindquarters.

Loved hearing that. Who wants a humble football team. If you don't 100% believe that you are a Superbowl team, then you're not. Give me more confident smack talk! And then prove it on the field to back it up. And why would that fire the other teams up? "ooh the Eagles think that they're good, let's teach'em a lesson." Please, let them step onto the field "fired up", B-Dawk will smack'em up, and shut'em up.

I love it when reporters wcritize athletes for their responses to questions asked by other reporters. Hey Narducci - how about you SHUT UP and write about what the Eagles do and not what they say?

Well, that's the first and last time I read this stupid blog...

Way to go Marc - I agree, these Iggles ain't proved nothing. so what they played well against the 2 worst (or close to it) teams in AFC. I hope for the best but shut up until you win something. They don't need to be humble but shootin off about the Superbowl is way too far

What do you expect the leader of the team to say?.....
Remember that, If you BELIEVE you CAN or you BELIEVE you CAN"T...in BOTH cases you are right!
I am pumped up for this season thanks to Donovan....You are just another typical "negadelphian".....
See you at the SuperBowl

Narduccci,

I don't believe that you have ever played competitive sports. You have no idea of what attitude and chemistry can do for a team. And right now, the Birds have it back again, so don't knock it.

Shut the F--- Up!

I couldn't agree more. I thats what they think...awesome....lets do this.....but lets no talk about it....I want the eagles to stay under the radar...I'd rathter have no one talk about them

Of course they should sound confident and say things like that. The problem is when the fans actually start to believe it too. 8-8 here we come.

I agree, but would you please shutup! You said the same thing over and over again in two paragraphs

At 11:09 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, you're absolutely right. So, so smart. I'm sure when the Eagles lose a game we'll look back and say, "It wasn't the fault of the offense, defense, special teams or coaching, it was in fact that time McNabb said they were a Super Bowl team. That gave the opposition motivation to beat the Eagles. What a shame."

Yes, you stretched one sentence into a few paragraphs. And to boot, I think the statement is retarded. The way this was written, you'd think that they are all jumping up and down screaming "We're the sh*t!" For the most part, I think Marc does some good work, but this was just sophomoric blog post.

I don't see a problem with the team's attitude. I like the fact that they are confident. It's not like they are cocky. If anything, they need to be angry and looking to take it out on the rest of the league. There is nothing wrong with a team that has a little swagger.Lord knows we need that in this city.

I agree 100% with this post....there is reason for hope with this team but they have a lot of work to do to get back to '04 form.

I just wonder what Fat Andy things of all this? I thought he programmed all his players to only say things like "We're taking it one game at a time". Who authorized these inflammatory comments?

I think Fat Andy is losing it.

your a dope. there is not one team in the nfc that has as good a defense as the eagles do. you say that they need some depth at a couple positions, but then again, which team doesn't. we have the best quarterback in the nfc and a line that crushes other opponents more than that dude did to your girl.

Wow, if McNabb came out and said he didn't think this team was a Super Bowl team he would be ripped for not being a leader or having confidence.

Instead he acts like the leader of this team and shows his faith in his teammates and he gets ripped for that. I feel sorry for the guy, he really can't win. I for one love that this team's goals remain unchanged after the 6-10 (injury plagued) season.

And honestly... what other team in their right mind is going to find a franchise QB saying he thinks his team is a Super Bowl team in training camp fodder??? Please, more than 1/2 of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL have probably made similar statements this summer alone.

Here's some quick advice - SHUT UP.

I agree with Donovan although I'll go a step further. I predict the best year ever!

Confidence is necessary to be a great team!! You Typical-Philly naysayers should go back to bad mouthing the Phillies, (like you friggin' people have done my whole 36 years of life), & let Da Iggles clean up the floor w/ the rest of the NFC this year!!
Donovan is a great leader & this year he'll prove it!!
I'm a die-hard Philadelphia-sports fan & I've had to put up w/ you people who bitch at the 1st sign of a problem...ON ALL 4 SPORTS TEAMS!
STOP BITCHIN' & ENJOY THE SHOW!!

T.O. & Injuries...The two WORST thing ANY football team can have!!!

Donav is a black QB in a white man's league - His idea of leadership is totally different than the white QBs like Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, Jaworski etc...
His comments are not leadership qualities it comes from a put down race for over 500 years. They are immature - you don't talk in the papaers like that, you talk in the huddle like that - privately! You are all uneducated philly school products!

Your attitude sucks. If they are excited and want to chat it up, and set their sights for the highest level of achievement, great. It sure beats your underinformed nay-saying.

OK sure there are flaws. The OLBs ensure that any offense that attacks the Eagles on the short pass and/or two TE sets can demolish them. Any opponent that has 4 speedy and moderately competent DBs can shut down our offense, particularly if Westbrook is down, sure. This team is flawed. But we also now have perhaps the best DL in the league and one of the best OLs in the league as well. Those are tremendous advantages. Both lines will only get better during the season and both lines have good depth. Those lines do legitimize the Eagles as contenders. So does the talent AND experience of Donovan McNabb. So too does the Eagles' coaching staff.

Any moron can find problems with a system of any kind. But it takes a few more neurons to see what's good in a system and weigh them against the bad.
